Biography

Content veteran & media entrepreneur, Angela has a distinguished background as an executive in content & OTT strategy, acquisitions, development and programming.  Angela previously served as Senior Vice President, Content Acquisitions and General Manager for UMC – Urban Movie Channel, overseeing the company’s acquisitions, development and programming for the proprietary subscription VOD platform UMC, launched by BET founder Robert L. Johnson, and prior to the company’s sale to AMC Networks.  While there, Angela spearheaded UMC’s original content initiative, bringing award-winning scripted and unscripted series to the OTT platform; and oversaw business operations, marketing and scheduling as GM.  Experienced in start-up platforms, Angela joined UMC from REVOLT TV, where she served as VP, Content Licensing & Acquisitions during the network’s startup and early launch phase.  Prior to Revolt, Angela previously held positions at Codeblack Entertainment (Vivendi Universal), Simmons-Lathan Media Group (digital start-up of Russell Simmons & Stan Lathan), and Urban Entertainment (a Time Warner company).  Angela has multi-decade experience in creative development and production, having started in the business as producer and previously worked as both a creative & production executive.  At each previous post, Angela was responsible for content acquisitions & programming strategy and played an integral role in both feature and series development.  Angela was honored in 2016 by Broadcasting & Cable/Multichannel News with the Content Acquisitions Executive Award during the Diversity Discussion in Television & Video Conference.

A member of the Producers Guild of America, Angela has served as a mentor and co-chair for the PGA Power of Diversity Master Workshop, and a member of PGA’s Women’s Impact Network.  A graduate of the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts (formerly School of Cinema-Television), Angela is also a member of Times UP, Colour Entertainment, Alliance for Women in Media, and Women in Film Los Angeles.

Angela has been a previously invited speaker at Sundance Institute, Digital Hollywood, Next TV, Hollywood Creative Forum, The Future of Television, and previously invited guest lecturer, in academic environments including Stanford, MIT, Los Angeles City College, Santa Monica City College, New York Film Academy and UCLA Extension; as well as panelist, juror and key note speaker at numerous film festivals, markets and other industry events.
